'Tin op Tafel' 'Made from Pewter, Enjoyed from Pewter'
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen Nomination, 2005
Pewter is much cheaper than silver, but was well used as a replacement.
In the past pewter was also called the silver of the poor. And that was my starting
point for this project. I wanted to find a border between material and status,
that concluded to the choice of designing the champagne cooler. The cooler has many
round shapes which gives the relationship between the bottle and its surroundings (
the condenser) in order. Champagne, the drink of choice of the elite in combination
with pewter, the silver of the poor, give to me an exciting combination.
Method of work: By placing ice in the outer tube, cold air is created within the
middle tube that eventually cools the bottle down without making it wet and slippery.
